A Newly Built Memphis Mansion Argues Traditional Southern Style Doesn't Have to Behave

A brand-new home built for a family of five in Memphis takes the formal grammar of traditional Southern architecture and lets it loosen up, threading whimsical touches through the classic bones instead of keeping them separate. It is the kind of house that would read as a little bold on a Palm Beach street built for symmetry and restraint, and right at home in Naples, where a wink at tradition tends to go over just fine. Either way, it is a reminder that "Southern style" was never one single house plan, even in a region as attached to its rules as this one.
