Wine Country's Latest Trophy Home Used to Keep the Lights On

A century-old power plant in Sonoma County has spent the last several decades as someone's private retreat rather than a source of electricity. A railroad heir bought the place in the 1950s and converted the old industrial building into a home. It's now listed for $3.8 million — proof that in wine country, a good pedigree beats square footage. Down here, we build our follies from scratch; out there, apparently, they just repurpose the old power grid.
