Woodford's Latest Experiment Comes Down to the Wood

Bourbon people down here take their opinions seriously, and Woodford Reserve just gave them something new to argue about. The distillery's Master's Collection, its outlet for small-batch experiments outside the standard lineup, has added a bottling called Super Seasoned Oak. As the name suggests, the release is built around barrel wood that's been given extra seasoning before the spirit ever touches it, the kind of variable bourbon makers treat as a lever worth pulling on. Robb Report got an early pour before the rest of us, which is generally how these things go. Expect it to work its way onto back bars from Naples to Palm Beach soon enough, where it will get judged the same way every new bourbon does around here: neat, unhurried, and without much patience for hype.
