Jay McDowell came to Nashville the way plenty of songwriters do: guitar in hand, dream in tow. He's a writer today, and a former member of BR549. His most recent job was a favor rather than a gig — helping some friends track down an upright bass player. So far, by his own account, it hasn't been easy.
