The DC-8 Leaves the U.S. Registry — for a Pavilion, Not the Scrapyard

The last DC-8 carrying a U.S. registration is done flying, and it isn't headed for the scrapper. The airframe, most recently flown as a freighter for Samaritan's Purse, is going on permanent display in Virginia as the centerpiece of a planned educational pavilion. Boeing is backing the project, putting its support behind preserving the type's final active example rather than letting it go to parts. For a fleet segment where retirement usually means teardown, this one ends on static display instead.
