The Department of Transportation has stood up a Space Task Force to address a forecast now projecting 10,000 launches and reentries a year. The new federal policy directs those operations to be woven more directly into the National Airspace System rather than managed as isolated, cordoned-off events. For owners who route around active launch windows today, that shift points toward space traffic becoming a standing feature of flight planning rather than an occasional detour. The scale of the forecast is the news here: 10,000 a year is an order of magnitude beyond current launch cadence, and it is what pushed DOT to act now.
