AMG Puts a V8 Back Under the Hood, and Gives It a Name to Match
Mercedes-AMG has revealed a V8-powered version of its C-Class-based CLE, badged the CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung and rated at 637 horsepower. The name is unusual enough that AMG has had to confirm it is not a typo. The car marks a return to the eight-cylinder layout the brand built its reputation on, arriving instead of a turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid setup that had been the more recent direction for the C-Class range. For AMG watchers, the move reads as an acknowledgment that a V8 still carries weight the smaller, electrified alternative does not.
