Ford has identified a ground connection in the S650-generation Mustang that can fracture over time, and the fault is significant enough to bring almost 150,000 cars back in for service. When the connection fails, it can cut power to the engine along with other functions tied to the same circuit. For a coupe whose appeal rests on how directly it responds to the driver, a wiring fault that touches the engine itself is not a minor footnote. The size of the recall alone says something about how many of the current Mustang generation are now parked in driveways and garages across the country.
