Maserati Stays Put, and a Reimagined Quattroporte Is on the Way
The question of who will own Maserati has an answer, and it is the owner it already has. The chief executive of Stellantis has said the Trident marque is not being offered to anyone. For American collectors who have followed the brand through its changes of hands over the decades, that settles the matter for now. The more interesting news for those who actually drive the cars is what comes next. Maserati plans to show concept vehicles in December that are meant to point toward its production future. Among them is expected to be a fresh SUV, a segment where the marque already sells to American buyers. Alongside it comes a rethinking of the Quattroporte, the nameplate that has carried Maserati's four-door ambitions for generations, in a form described as bearing little resemblance to the sedan owners know today. That is the detail worth watching from here. A Quattroporte that breaks with its own silhouette is a bold move for a house whose clientele tends to prize continuity. December will show how far the design studio has been allowed to go.
