A Silverado HD With No One Behind the Wheel, and No Engine Note Either

· 1 min read

GM Defense is building a prototype of the Chevrolet Silverado HD that drives itself, developed with the U.S. Army in mind. The concept is classed as an Unmanned Ground Vehicle, which means the heavy-duty pickup familiar from every American job site would move without a soldier in the cab. The gasoline and diesel powertrains that give the production truck its character are gone from this version, replaced by battery-electric propulsion that runs without the sound of combustion. For owners who know the Silverado HD as a work truck first, it is a striking second life for the platform.
