Toyota's GR GT3: Built for the Track, Then Offered for the Road

Toyota has engineered its new GR GT3 in reverse order from most of the industry. Rather than starting with a production model and adapting it for competition, the automaker built the car to GT3 racing specifications first and let that engineering define the version now being offered for sale. It is an inversion of the usual playbook, where the race car is a modified version of what a customer can already buy. For collectors, that order matters: this is a car whose road-going form descends from the racer, not the other way around.
