Volvo's Next XC90 Plug-In Hybrid Promises 73 Miles Without a Drop of Gasoline

· 1 min read

Volvo says the plug-in hybrid powertrain arriving in the 2028 XC90 will deliver 73 miles of pure-electric range, enough for most owners to cover a full day of errands, school runs, or a commute before the gasoline engine ever has to engage. The automaker is calling it a "long-range" plug-in hybrid, a label meant to reflect just how far the three-row SUV can travel on battery power alone. For owners who plug in each night, that figure points to markedly fewer stops at the pump, with the gasoline engine held in reserve mainly for longer drives beyond town.
