293 California Yearlings Head to Pomona on Wednesday
The California yearling market gets its day on Wednesday at Fairplex in Pomona, where Fasig-Tipton opens its California Fall Yearlings Sale at 11 a.m. Pacific. The catalog lists 293 yearlings, and all of them will be offered in one session that day. That gives buyers a single day to find what they came for. For Los Angeles readers, the sale is close to home, just east of the city in the San Gabriel Valley, at the fairgrounds they already know. Every horse in the catalog is a yearling that has not yet raced, so buyers will be judging each one on conformation, walk and pedigree page. With 293 lots scheduled for one day, the auctioneer will keep a steady pace from the late-morning start. Wednesday in Pomona is when California's newest crop of racing prospects meets its first buyers.
