Clean Start, Clean Finish: Covfefe's Gun Runner Filly Delivers at Churchill Downs

Foxiest's first start ended almost as soon as it began, when a stumble cost her any real chance. Her second start at Churchill Downs went very differently. The filly by Gun Runner won with ease, and the Thoroughbred Daily News named her a "Rising Star." Her dam is the champion Covfefe, which is why horsemen were already watching her. A breakdown of Gun Runner over a champion mare is the kind of cross breeders study in the catalog long before any foal reaches the track. This time the filly showed what that pedigree promised, and she did it on the country's best-known dirt, under the twin spires. Pedigree gets a young horse noticed, but she has to win before the notice counts, and on her second try Foxiest did.
