A Connect Colt Settles the Vosburgh by the Barest Margin, and Earns His Way to the Breeders' Cup
The Grade III Vosburgh Stakes at Belmont Park on Thursday was too close to call from the grandstand, so the result waited on the photo. When the stewards posted it, T Kraft, a son of Connect, had held on by a nose. Crazy Mason, by Coal Front, finished second after closing hard in the final strides. The two crossed the wire so nearly together that only the camera could separate them. The Vosburgh is a "Win and You're In" race, so the victory also gives T Kraft a starting spot at the Breeders' Cup. For anyone who follows the New York circuit, it was a fine autumn afternoon of racing: two well-bred horses giving everything to the line, and a winner who now has a place at the championships.
