Nitrogen Books Her Breeders' Cup Case in a Weather-Shuffled New York Weekend

Nitrogen crossed the wire first in the Beldame Stakes, a result that puts the mare's name squarely into Breeders' Cup planning for November. The win came in a weekend when a postponement had already scrambled the racing calendar for September 26 and 27, forcing organizers to work around the disruption to get the card in. That Nitrogen's stakes effort still went off as the marquee result of the meeting speaks to how closely connections and handicappers alike were watching this particular test. A Beldame victory carries real weight on the road to the Cup, and this one arrives with the extra distinction of having survived a schedule nobody planned for.
