OXO Equine's Own Minaret Station Breaks Through in the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic
Minaret Station has won the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic for OXO Equine LLC, the outfit that bred him and still races him. The 4-year-old colt had been close to the top of the turf division all year without getting his picture taken. Now he has a win to go with all that attention, and it came in a race named for one of the sport's great chroniclers. His pedigree shows how he was made. He is by Instilled Regard, out of the Irish-bred mare Beau Recall, a daughter of the Irish-bred Sir Prancealot. That's an American sire crossed onto an Irish female family, and it has produced a colt who shows up on the grass every time and has finally been rewarded for it. The ownership is what makes this one special. A homebred win is a different thing from a win bought in the sales ring. The decision on which stallion to use was OXO Equine's, and so was everything in the years between that mating and this result.
