Saratoga's Whitney Day Opener Sends Gaudreau and U.S.S. Valor to the Champagne

The Champagne will bring Gaudreau and U.S.S. Valor back onto the same track, and the pairing heads the "Super Saturday" card. Both are graduates of the maiden race that opened Whitney Day at Saratoga on Aug. 8, and that race now looks like one of the most productive of the summer. One of the colts in this rematch has not run since that first start, which he won by a half-length. Few maiden races in a season send runners on to a stakes like this one. When an Aug. 8 opener at the Spa produces a matchup good enough to lead the program, the people who bred, bought and trained these colts deserve some credit. They will meet in the Champagne with the summer behind them.
