Silent Tactic Answers Saratoga With a Win in the Oklahoma Derby
A month after the Travers, Silent Tactic is a winner again. The 3-year-old colt, owned by John C. Oxley in partnership with Victoriam Farm, took the Oklahoma Derby on Sunday. His last start came at Saratoga on Aug. 29 in the Grade I Travers Stakes, where he was pulled up before the finish and did not run the race out. Sunday's result makes that afternoon at the Spa a break in his record rather than where the story ends. His pedigree is all-American. Silent Tactic is by Tacitus, and his dam is Magical Sign, a daughter of Gun Runner. That puts him with a group of young horses carrying Gun Runner through their mothers, and anyone who keeps a stallion register or a sales catalog open will take note. For the Oxley and Victoriam Farm partnership, the Oklahoma Derby puts a colt who came home quietly from New York back in a winner's photograph, and it did not take long.
