Two Santa Anita Wins Punch the Ticket to Churchill Downs

Forged Steel and Cabo Spirit each broke sharp in their Santa Anita stakes races this week and crossed the wire with more than a trophy on the line — both horses punched their tickets to the Breeders' Cup with the victories. The wins are the kind that reorder a stable's fall calendar overnight, turning a Santa Anita afternoon into a straight shot at racing's championship weekend. For connections on both sides, it is the payoff for a summer of placing a horse just right for exactly this moment.
