A 710-Horsepower 911 and the Question of Which Florida Garage Deserves It
Singer's Firefly Commission starts from a 964-generation Porsche 911. It now makes 710 horsepower and has a top speed of 218 miles per hour. The auction estimate runs close to $4 million, which tells you what serious collectors now think careful, obsessive rebuilding is worth. In Miami, a car like this would be judged by how it sounds leaving a valet stand. In Palm Beach, people would talk about the provenance. In Naples, they would quietly check the torque figures before lunch. All three would be right to take it seriously. The 964 is an older 911 shape, and very few people would expect 710 horsepower from it. The Firefly Commission combines that familiar silhouette with modern power. The Florida driver who ends up with it will have a car that is both a piece of history and a very capable machine, and the price shows respect for the work that went into it.
