A House That Floats, a Boat at the Door, and a $1.7 Million Asking Price in San Francisco
In Florida we know a thing or two about living near water. Naples buys its view, Palm Beach keeps a lawn between itself and the Atlantic, and Miami builds a tower and calls the bay the backyard. San Francisco has now put forward something more committed: a house that sits right on the water, in Mission Creek Harbor, offered at $1.7 million. The city allows only 20 homes like it, so this one is less a listing than a rare chance to live on the water in a place that permits very few people to try. It also comes with its own boat and a 40-foot slip, which means the front door and the way out onto the water are about as close together as they can get. Most waterfront buyers here would think of the dock as a feature. On Mission Creek, the water is the address. For anyone who has ever looked at a Florida marina and wondered what it would be like to skip the house on land entirely, San Francisco is offering one of its 20 answers.
