A Rye Negroni Called Mane of Needles Asks a Little More of Florida's Home Bartenders

The Mane of Needles takes the Negroni, a drink most people can mix half-asleep, and builds it on rye whiskey, which gives it a sharper, spikier finish than the classic. It also gives up the easy equal-measures formula, so whoever's mixing will need to pay closer attention than usual. That extra fuss pays off in the glass, whether you're pouring at a Palm Beach bar cart, a Naples lanai or a Miami kitchen counter that won't see guests until nearly midnight. When a drink makes you slow down and earn it, that's usually a good sign.
