U.S.S. Valor Ends His Season on the Champagne Win at Belmont Park
U.S.S. Valor, a son of War of Will, won Saturday's Grade I Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park, and that will be his last start this season. On Sunday his owner, Barry Irwin, said the colt will not go on to the Breeders' Cup Juvenile and won't race again this year. It was not his first impressive run; the Champagne was the latest in a row of them. The Champagne is one of New York's biggest fall tests for two-year-olds, and winning a Grade I there is a solid result to rest on. U.S.S. Valor will stay in the barn while the year's other juveniles go on to the Breeders' Cup.
